I really don't think of myself as a collector. I was looking around the house not finding anything. I walked into my closet room and it hit me. I have hundreds of pieces of clothing. And my closet is filled with handbags, scarves and other tidbits, but I pride myself on my shoe shelves. So, I brought in shoes. I have at least a hundred shoes. Some of which I've never worn. When I see an adorable shoe, I just have to have it!Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03820626402246939435noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6952145941102905638.post-18512042015485208222007-12-14T22:59:00.000-08:002007-12-14T23:02:03.570-08:00actual size<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9KNOqNoVNfFzOFq_bZ6bgTvtayyra9ropYwBFGAxqiq8K6RbMIkXKBObhAOhdTl7ZNP2fHGom8AgvriqZzkx3aA8VZpCb16lNC5C1t96rzwkarCX0ovj7uDbzaHe3M2b5y06AesO4rnc/s320/camera.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5144090895641161618" />
I found this advertisement the other day while leafing through ESPN while waiting to get my oil changed. The Sun launched its new sports tab this Sunday. It's been a lot to get used to. The "magazine-like" style is much more design intensive that the old broadsheet format. But, it is fun.

I got to take my first crack at designing the cover last night. Here's how it came out.

I'm interested to see what you all think of the new tab (if you've seen it). If you haven't, you really should check it out. You can find many more examples in the Designer Spotlight.Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03820626402246939435noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6952145941102905638.post-23925533981354725042007-11-12T09:13:00.001-08:002007-11-14T17:14:26.653-08:00show and tell: definitionFrom Cinderella

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep

Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbows will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're feeling small
Alone in the night you whisper
Thinking no one can hear you at all
You wake with the morning sunlight
To find fortune that is smiling on you
Don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
For all you know, tomorrow
The dream that you wish will come true

A dream is a wish your heart makes...

A dream is a wish your heart makes...

You wake with the morning sunlight
To find fortune that is smiling on you
Don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
For all you know, tomorrow
The dream that you wish will come true

No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come trueHeatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03820626402246939435noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6952145941102905638.post-36567341235841424292007-11-09T20:58:00.001-08:002007-11-10T05:34:21.853-08:00narration can be a pain<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZvXnEVIO69ABPNBMkd6gB76VBQEBf-KIfnY9XOLReWaEY9bDIpon-O7UMLSemnS5m0qYT6r78WlqXXhxOpFUX0eQagEfvCjO8PZi4VIjnjF7_JvSlXBbtOjCqX4lW3B_nNVHDRFaZbyE/s320/11589922.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131203793282851298" />
Awhile back I read the book 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky. After show and tell this week, I got to thinking about this book as a narrative. The story is told by a teenage boy through letters he's written to an anonymous person. I continued to think about this book as I worked on my iMovie. There are many different ways to approach narration. I'd been having trouble deciding how to narrate my iMovie - an actual narrator, just music or words on the screen. Not to mention wondering if I should use first person or third-person omniscient or even a limited third-person omniscient! Thinking about alternative narration methods helped me step back and think about an interesting way to do it.Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03820626402246939435noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6952145941102905638.post-5520444980063311882007-11-07T18:35:00.000-08:002007-11-07T18:42:05.861-08:00wow<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOr8kIN9MSYgzWz9AXIeqKcchANRASshyphenhyphenLWP5cCgHCcJc17C2w3ZNQAd9Ng8Bc7RSzYLwfpj7JKnMCUKkh_QMmDS5M6ereqU_-F6kSS-sCUnzdISv9WU1lEJovt1kc_DCCEwL10GDELQw/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130292697575383506" />

I came across Aaron Goodman's photography Web site the other day. When does it really work to used a behind the scenes photo? I think it has to be a situation that lends itself to a real featurey design. Ultimately, I decided to go with the portrait instead of the behind the scenes photo. Mostly for spatial reasons. But even if I had needed a horizontal photo, I don't think the behind the scenes would have been appropriate. Have you ever used a behind the scenes photo in a spread? Then I came across this article in HOW magazine. As a designer, I find it hard to settle on a design that represents me. After all, you are trying to get people to let you design something for them. If they don't like your card, it's not a good place to start. The ice cream looks too much like paste. Ewwwwww.

The top photo is the one I originally used. Do you think the bottom photo is better? I think seeing the ice cream cone in her hand dispels any hope of a paste-eating child.Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03820626402246939435noreply@blogger.com4
